How are UVUEM District teams formed?District Competition teams are formed by volunteer coaches and through a tryout process. Not everyone makes a team at this level, as it is dependent on the number of coaches coaching at this level as well as roster spots available. Typically, District coaches are more than just parents filling in; they are committed to teaching the kid’s soccer and taking them to a higher level. Many of them are licensed coaches through training courses available through US Soccer’s national training curriculum; however, licensing is not required at this level. Coaches select players for their teams at tryouts. Ultimately the decision is yours if multiple coaches select your player for their teams. You should ask questions and feel comfortable with the coach and team. Because positions on teams are limited, it can be competitive to make a district level team. If your player is not selected for a team then you can opt to become a coach for your child to play at this level. Coaches are instructed to contact the players whom they want for their team within 3 days. If your child comes to tryouts, we will try and place them on a team.

Each coach is different on how they decide playing time and starting role, but typically if your player makes all the practices, works hard and is committed, they will see adequate playing time. Most coaches have to juggle this issue carefully.
